Paint the Town Blue: Family Fun Day is a project created by Connect Mobile, Class of 2016 in partnership with The Learning Tree, Inc., Autism2Ability, and the Autism Society of Alabama. This family fun event will be held at Tricentennial Park on April 22nd, 2017 during Autism Awareness Month. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about autism early diagnosis and treatment options. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These numbers present an urgent crisis but many options are available to combat the debilitating effects of Autism. Research shows that with early intervention, symptoms of Autism can be drastically improved, if not eradicated. Attendees will enjoy a fun and relaxed environment with something for everyone: petting zoo, Easter egg hunt, cotton candy, giveaways, and free food. Families will also have access to medical professionals trained to identify autism and other developmental disorders as well as speech and behavioral therapists, and doctoral students from the University of South Alabama who will be present to administer free developmental screenings for children of all ages.
